UPU Letter-Writing Competition 2019
The Royal Gibraltar Post Office (RGPO) has now launched the 2019 Letter-Writing Competition on behalf of the United Nations’ (UN) Universal Postal Union (UPU). The competition is an excellent way of making young people aware of the important role postal services play in our societies, develops their skills in composition and the ability to express their thoughts clearly, fosters their enjoyment of letter writing, and helps strengthen the bonds of international friendship – one of the basic missions of the UPU.
The competition is open to pupils attending School in GIBRALTAR up to the age of 15 years on 12 April 2019.
The theme for 2018/2019 is……
“Write a Letter about your Hero”.
Local prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st Prize………….Trophy & £300.
2nd Prize………….Certificate & £200
3rd Prize………….Certificate & £100
The winner will represent Gibraltar at international level in the UN UPU’s main competition for 2019. There will gold, silver and bronze medals for the international winners; the gold medal may be presented at UN UPU Headquarters in Berne, SWITZERLAND. The winner and parents may be invited to attend.
Anna Grech from Westside Comprehensive received a Special Mention Certificate and several extra prizes from the UPU in 2016, the first time for a Gibraltarian.
Copies of the Rules and Entry Forms will also be made available via Schools. Submissions are to be made via Teachers at Schools (details will be promulgated via the Schools) as the UN’s UPU International Bureau cannot entertain direct entries.
